Starting as a mirror site of Christina DeMello's "College and University Home Pages" list that hasn't been updated for a long time, the listing of Institutions is now based on the "World List of Universities 1997" published by the International Association of Universities (IAU) and links discovered or posted here. Database is maintained by Klaus Förster, reproduction and distribution are permissible for non-profit purposes only, but no changes are to be made to these documents without the author's written consent. The names of all universities and university level institutions, as provided to IAU by national authorities and competent bodies from 184 countries around the world, are included in this list organized by country.
Taken from the World Higher Education Database, the list contains almost 9 760 university level institutions from 184 countries and territories, these institutions are described in detail in the IAU's International Handbook of Universities. It should be noted that the designations employed for countries and territories in the World Higher Education Database (WHED) do not imply any expression of opinion of IAU with regard to their status or the delimitations of their frontiers.
Some 8000 non-university level institutions of higher education are also included in IAU’s dababase, available on CD-Rom and in the World List directory.
The following list is based on data last collected by IAU from national competent authorities in 2005. Should any such authority provide more recent updates, the resulting changes will be integrated immediately and the date of most recent revisions will appear in the relevant country listing.
